Paschal McDonnell, Family and Friends
Like Planxty, who reformed on a number of occasions, Celtic Drift as a group has expanded over time. This, our second album, grew out of an enjoyable weekend when I invited family and friends to join me for a few relaxed days in L.A. Verna, Rossnowlagh, (the name given by visiting nieces). The beginnings of this CD emerged during that weekend and I recorded extra tracks, with some original pieces, to complete a more substantial album.
New personnel bring new sounds to this album – my cousin, Perpetua McNulty, on cello and my niece, Bébhinn, plays concertina and shares a birthday with me! Bébhinn’s parents Cyril and Maura, feature throughout the album: whistle, guitar and vocal harmonies; while my other brother, Raphael, makes a major contribution on guitar and bouzouki, especially the latter where he excels on Nancy Spain and Ye Rambling Boys of Pleasure. Marie Askin, on piano, offered an arrangement of Piazza Navona, accompanied by cello and guitar.
Along the Shore also features an original vocal Freedom to Move, plus five songs from the Planxty repertoire.
